The photograph above shows the margin, or edge, of the Furtwangler Glacier atop Kilimanjaro's summit as it looked in 2000. In the image below, taken five years later in 2006, shows the retreat of the massive ice field. The group of rocks in the lower left of the image abutted the ice wall in 2000.
